Promethean Charter School, a grade 9-12 charter school, offers an innovative educational choice. Enrolled students become part of a small learning community with emphasis on high performance in a technology enriched environment. This setting will combine high expectations and a meaningful course of study with powerful, sustained involvement of caring adults who mentor, advise, and support students throughout their educational career.
The Promethean School curriculum and instruction pays rigorous attention to students’ reading, writing, and mathematical proficiencies with basic academic skills instruction embedded into project activities. A constructivist instruction model is used wherein the teacher/mentor facilitates students’ progress on their individual education plan. This includes creating a learning environment that expects students to master challenging, interesting, and relevant, standards-based material. In this way students have greater ownership of their learning. They are the active agents with the teacher serving as guide, setting standards and monitoring progress. The instructional format emphasizes student use of a variety of modern communication resources and devices. Students are challenged to use these as a regular part of their study and presentation efforts. Real time distance learning classes through the NWECS network, IP Desktop conferencing, online courses including the PLATO collection, facsimile, telephone and the Internet are all available to facilitate student learning.
The Promethean Charter School is committed to students graduating from high school ready for post high school education, gainful employment and productive citizenship.
